The Gahan Lab is based at the Centre for Chromosome Biology at the University of Galway in Ireland.
Our lab is broadly interested in two areas 1. Chromatin and gene regulation, and 2. Early animal evolution. As such, we work on two model systems: the sea anemone Nematostella vectensis and on choanoflagellates, the closest relatives of animals.

The lab is made up of a group of passionate researchers who each have individual projects but collaborate extensively (See our Team page). We believe in the importance of equality and diversity in science and James is part of the SAFE labs (Starting Aware Fair & Equitable Labs) initiative .
